We spent years moving data for people who never got an answer.

Capable teams were spending most of their data budget moving data around, and almost nothing on the questions the data was collected to answer. The people who needed those answers waited. So we built everything between the data and them.

From sign-up to a pipeline running on your own data

Built because nothing else worked.

The Databasin founders spent their careers building enterprise data solutions for healthcare and mid-market organizations. They built pipelines, stood up warehouses, and helped teams make sense of their data. Time and again, they watched capable teams fall into the same trap: spending 70% of their time and budget just moving and storing data and leaving barely a fraction for the analytics that actually move the business forward.

They watched organizations try to layer AI capabilities onto fragmented legacy architectures and run into the same limitations every time. Projects stalled, vendor bills grew, and nobody trusted the numbers. The teams were good. The setup they'd been handed made the work slow.

Databasin was built to end that cycle. It was co-created in St. Louis at Washington University School of Medicine's Institute for Informatics, Data Science & Biostatistics (I2DB), one of the most demanding data environments in the country. It gives lean teams the enterprise-grade infrastructure that used to require a staff of specialists and a seven-figure technology budget.

Today, highly regulated organizations across healthcare, finance, and construction use Databasin to stand up a governed lakehouse in weeks, instead of budgeting a year for it and skip the integration work that has defined enterprise data infrastructure for the past two decades.

"The architectural decisions we made at WashU Medicine (open formats, engine-agnostic storage, LLM-agnostic AI) weren't about flexibility for flexibility's sake. They were about never letting the ecosystem become the bottleneck."

Built inside an academic medical center, under real regulatory load. Now available to every organization that needs it.

2021
The problem that started everything
Co-created at Washington University School of Medicine's Institute for Informatics, Data Science & Biostatistics (I2DB) to meet the Epic EHR data demands of one of the country's leading academic medical centers. No commercial solution existed at AMC scale.
2022
Production infrastructure, proven under pressure
Databasin deployed in production at WashU Medicine. Epic data management at AMC scale, not a prototype and not a proof of concept.
2023
Microsoft features Databasin at HIMSS
Commercial availability begins. Microsoft recognizes Databasin as the solution to the Epic data challenge facing health systems nationwide.
2024
Databricks joins. More teams come aboard.
Featured at HIMSS alongside Microsoft for the second consecutive year. Finance teams, construction firms and universities start running on Databasin.
2025
Databasin One: ask your data anything
AI-native Insights module launched. Third consecutive HIMSS feature. Natural language queries now run against governed, gold-layer data with no analyst in the middle.
2026
Credit-based access. Channel partners.
Credit-based access launching for data engineers and technical teams. Start with $50 in credits. Channel co-sell partnerships with Microsoft, Databricks, and Snowflake AE networks formalized.
2026
Data Apps, Databasin Sail and OLTP mode
Data Apps turn a conversation, a Power BI report or a React dashboard into a live app people open with a link. Databasin Sail, our own Spark-compatible engine, runs the lakehouse. OLTP mode puts a Postgres database beside it for apps that write all day, in private preview.

The founders still run every demo.

How we think about building this.

01
The data team should never be the bottleneck
When every question requires a ticket, a sprint, and three weeks, the data team isn't enabling the business. They're a queue. With Databasin, people ask their own questions, so the queue gets shorter without hiring more analysts.
02
Infrastructure complexity is a tax, not a feature
We've spent those hours ourselves: on ingestion, pipeline repairs and storage settings, when we should have been answering someone's question. Every one of them has a price. Taking them off your plate is our job.
03
Regulated industries deserve better than workarounds
We built Databasin inside a hospital, on regulated data, from the first day. Healthcare and finance teams get told they must choose between serious data work and staying compliant. You don't have to. Start with us, or run it in your own Azure tenant when your rules require it, and you get both.
04
Openness over lock-in, always
Open table formats. Engine-agnostic compute. Your data readable by any compatible tool, now and in the future. We have no interest in becoming the next proprietary moat you'll spend years escaping.
