Summary
Compana Pet Brands, a fast-growing player in the pet care space, found itself in a common but costly position: Trying to build reliable, scalable pipelines between their operational systems and their analytics environment using a patchwork of tools.
Their initial goal—to extract usable customer and consumer CRM case related data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) into their data lake for business reporting and decision-making—quickly spiraled into a web of brittle processes, performance limitations, and operational headaches.
Challenge
Over the course of two months, the Compana team tested several approaches to bring D365 data into their analytics platform, starting with Logic Apps. Early progress was stalled by permissions issues, followed by pagination limitations that capped row retrievals. Even after addressing the permissions, Logic Apps couldn’t efficiently handle paginated results.
The team pivoted to Azure Synapse Link but faced misleading documentation and complex configurations. The fallback plan—Azure Data Factory (ADF)—proved even more unwieldy, with inaccessible D365 views and poor debugging performance. Each tool created a new obstacle, whether in query complexity, data usability, or system stability. Even the temporary solution built with Logic Apps eventually failed, duplicating data in production and creating significant reporting risks. The entire experience consumed extensive engineering time without producing a robust or sustainable solution.
Solution
Databasin was deployed just as the existing process failed again. Within days of installation, the Compana team used Databasin to:

• Configure pipelines directly into their production Databricks environment without writing custom pagination or battling brittle
